Construction and Science ships cost 100 alloys to build.Ĭivilian ships use the evasive fleet stance by default, meaning that they will attempt to escape the system whenever a hostile fleet enters it. Each civilian ship, excluding transports, has a monthly maintenance cost of 1 energy. Their shields, armor, and core components are automatically upgraded once the next tier component tech is unlocked at no cost, and they do not need to return to a Starbase to receive component upgrades. Its other armaments include two 30mm close-in guns systems and 80 peripheral vertical launch cells that can fire Tomahawk missiles, the Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile (ESSM), Standard Missiles, and Vertical Launch Anti-Submarine Rockets.Civilian ships represent all unarmed vessels of an empire and are controlled individually. Its mission set currently parallels that of the DDG-51. But the system was canceled after it was determined that each round would cost at least $800,000. The ship's signature Advanced Gun System was to have shot a precision-guided 155mm munition, the Long Range Land Attack Projectile, or LRLAP. Only three ships of the class are now planned, down from an initial 32, and only one is in service: the USS Zumwalt. Though its hulking size and dramatic geometry are eye-catching, the ship has been plagued by cost overruns and design challenges that left it without a clear use for the Navy. It's roughly 40% larger than an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, with a length of 610 feet and displacement of nearly 16,000 tons. This unique class of stealthy megadestroyer has an innovative hull design that enables it to appear as a small fishing boat on radar, despite its massive size. The four ships in the class went through a modernization period completed in 2014. They feature a well deck that can fit two LCACs and a deck at the back for helicopter launches and landings. This small class of amphibious ship has been in service since 1995 and is designed to maximize cargo space. Harpers Ferry-Class Dock Landing Ship (LSD-49) All eight ships in the class are still active. The well deck is designed to accommodate up to four Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC) hovercraft. The ships can hold a crew of more than 300 and an embarked complement of up to 500 Marines. The Whidbey Island class has been in service since 1985, and features a small flight deck for Ospreys or helicopters and a large well deck for amphibious landing craft and connectors. Whidbey Island-Class Dock Landing Ship (LSD-41) To date, 11 ships have been built in the class. With a length of 684 feet, the ships carry a crew of nearly 350 sailors and can support a Marine landing force of nearly 700. They're designed to be highly networked and adaptable to emerging platforms and military operations. Smaller than amphibious assault ships, amphibious transport docks feature a short flight deck at the back with room for two V-22 Ospreys to launch or land. This class of ships has been in commission since 2006. San Antonio-Class Amphibious Transport Dock (LPD-17) Only two ships have been built in the America class. A typical aircraft complement for a deployment will include 12 Ospreys and six Joint Strike Fighters, as well as CH-53K King Stallion heavy-lift helicopters, AH1Z/UH-1Y Viper/Huey attack/utility helicopters and Navy MH-60S Seahawk maritime helicopters. It was designed as a platform for some of the Marine Corps' newest aircraft platforms, the F-35B Joint Strike Fighter and the MV-22 Osprey. The America class features more flight deck space for aircraft, but does not have a well deck like the other amphibious assault ships. The first of this newest class of amphib was commissioned in 2014. Only one of the original eight ships of the class is out of service: the Bonhomme Richard, which was severely damaged in a catastrophic fire in July 2020 and is designated for decommissioning in 2021.Īmerica-Class Amphibious Assault Ship (LHA-6) They also feature a well deck from which amphibious craft and connectors can land and launch. The ships are 843 feet in length and can carry up to three dozen aircraft on the flight deck in a mix of fixed-wing and rotorcraft platforms. These ships have been in commission since 1989 and are capable of transporting a full 2,000-strong Marine Expeditionary Unit, with fighter jets, helicopters and combat vehicles. Wasp-Class Amphibious Assault Ship (LHD-1) The classes of amphibious ships include the following: The Navy's amphibious ships, sometimes called miniature carriers, are used to deploy Marines and sailors forward around the world for training, combat and humanitarian missions.

We treat visemes as a dynamic shaping of the vocal tract by describing visemes as curves instead of keyframes. We also present a method to animate the facial model over time to create animated speech using a model of coarticulation that blends visemes together using dominance functions. To decrease the processing time, we hierarchically deform the facial surface. We add teeth, gums, and upper palate geometry to complete the inner mouth. Our facial model also includes a highly deformable tongue model that can represent the shapes the tongue undergoes during speech. Our facial model has a highly deformable lip model that is grafted onto the input facial geometry to provide the necessary geometric complexity needed for creating lip shapes and high-quality renderings. The facial model uses a muscle-based parameterization, allowing for easier integration between speech synchrony and facial expressions. Our facial model takes facial geometry as input and transforms it into a parametric deformable model. Not so much. "EX-TER-MI-NATE!" Awesome for some viewers. The squeak of the TARDIS doors opening and closing.Apparently it was achieved by striking a gong under water, and the result is hauntingly beautiful. Hearing it usually means something truly epic is about to go down. The TARDIS also has its cloister bell alarm, the sound of which indicates something has gone very wrong with the fabric of time and space.Depending on how the episode has gone, this can sound like the end of the world, notably in "The Fires of Pompeii". When the good Doctor throws the switch to start the TARDIS, there's a deep clunnnggg! sound that starts the whole dematerialisation sequence. And so, breaking every rule of time, the Moment allows both the Tenth and Eleventh Doctor's TARDISes through the time lock and into the Time War, the camera focusing on the War Doctor's ear just as the Moment says 'to any who hear it' before the sound kicks in, and it truly brings him the hope he needed. Highlighted in "The Day of the Doctor", when the Moment asks the War Doctor about that noise the TARDIS makes, commenting that it brings hope and joy to any who hear it, no matter how lost, even to the Doctor himself.Captain Jack Harkness' eyes spoke for us all at the end of Series 1 of Torchwood.(It finally makes it onto the show itself in "The Day of the Doctor", with the Moment explaining that it brings hope to everyone who hears it.) Terrance Dicks would habitually refer to it as a "wheezing, groaning sound" in his numerous novelizations, where the phrase itself becomes a textual equivalent. So do the other renegade Time Lords in the classic series, the Master's TARDIS and the Rani's TARDIS both have the "vworp" sound. The Doctor: Yeah, well, it's a brilliant noise. CSI: Miami: The Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again".The Countdown timer, the ending especially.COPS: The Langley Productions Vanity Plate: complete with accompanying blues-rock riff.Accompanied by Stephen Colbert proving he has the most versatile eyebrows in the entertainment business.A more recent example from The Colbert Report is the Hilarious Arabic Chanting that made it's first appearance in Mysteries of the Ancient Unknown, and has become the stock sound for Arabian, Egyptian or Muslim-based skits. It's just a reminder that the viewer's in for an awesome time after the theme. The entire theme song itself, particularly the trumpets that play throughout it.During the theme song of Chuck, the noise when the stick figure puts it's head back on is.And then there's the part where Castle and Beckett walk into a bar and the piano player starts playing the theme song. The theme tune of Castle (which interestingly is alarmingly similar to the theme tune of Sherlock). The sultry female voice telling the viewer, "It's Burke's Law".Also: the grinding whine when Cylons appear on-screen, and the "shhh-WHOOSH-whine" of an FTL jump.Still gives one hell of a rush when you start watching it again from the beginning though. Sadly, the most badass and promising Taiko Drum sequence (1:11) comes immediately after the BSG logo during the first minutes of the pilot/mini-series, and never appears again.Battlestar Galactica has the ominous clanking of the Cylon Centurions and the soft whirring of their red laser eyes. The sound of the Hyperspace Gate powering up. That faint 'Buhwaaaah' meant 'action scene next'.
Sometime in the Zhou dynasty-the current guess is around 800 BCE-the sixty-four hexagrams were named, and a written text was established, based on the oral traditions. Where the hexagrams came from, or how they were interpreted, is completely unknown. Many of these “oracle bones”-hundreds of thousands of them have been unearthed-have complete hexagrams or the numbers assigned to hexagrams incised on them. In the Shang dynasty (which began circa 1600 BCE) or possibly even earlier, fortune-telling diviners would apply heat to tortoise shells or the scapulae of oxen and interpret the cracks that were produced. The archaeological and historical version of this narrative is far murkier. He wrote brief oracles for each that have since been known as the “Judgments.” His son, the Duke of Zhou, a poet, added gnomic interpretations for the individual lines of each hexagram, known simply as the “Lines.” It was said that, five hundred years later, Confucius himself wrote ethical commentaries explicating each hexagram, which are called the “Ten Wings” (“wing,” that is, in the architectural sense). Around the year 1050 BCE, according to the tradition, Emperor Wen, founder of the Zhou dynasty, doubled the trigrams to hexagrams (six-lined figures), numbered and arranged all of the possible combinations-there are sixty-four-and gave them names. The trigrams themselves represented, respectively, heaven, a lake, fire, thunder, wind, water, a mountain, and earth (see illustration below).įrom these building blocks of the cosmos, Fu Xi devolved all aspects of civilization-kingship, marriage, writing, navigation, agriculture-all of which he taught to his human descendants. He discovered that everything could be reduced to eight trigrams, each composed of three stacked solid or broken lines, reflecting the yin and yang, the duality that drives the universe. In the mythological version, the culture hero Fu Xi, a dragon or a snake with a human face, studied the patterns of nature in the sky and on the earth: the markings on birds, rocks, and animals, the movement of clouds, the arrangement of the stars. The origin of the text is, as might be expected, obscure. It is the center of a vast whirlwind of writings and practices, but is itself a void, or perhaps a continually shifting cloud, for most of the crucial words of the I Ching have no fixed meaning. With its seeming infinitude of applications and interpretations, there has never been a book quite like it anywhere. In the West, it has been known for over three hundred years and, since the 1950s, is surely the most popularly recognized Chinese book. In China and in East Asia, it has been by far the most consulted of all books, in the belief that it can explain everything. It was an organizing principle or authoritative proof for literary and arts criticism, cartography, medicine, and many of the sciences, and it generated endless Confucian, Taoist, Buddhist, and, later, even Christian commentaries, and competing schools of thought within those traditions. The I Ching has served for thousands of years as a philosophical taxonomy of the universe, a guide to an ethical life, a manual for rulers, and an oracle of one’s personal future and the future of the state. ‘An Ancient Chinese Poet’ colored engraving of an original Chinese scroll We round out our microphone reviews with the new dynamic Mojave MA-D.Įvery microphone needs a good preamp in that category, we have the new TRP500 from AEA and the Clarett+ OctoPre from Focusrite. This MixChecker Pro, as a product, only offers some merit as a secondary check for convenience, and rather pre-assumes the user already has their main excellent monitoring in place – but ironically such a person with objectively truly excellent monitors would not need to make those secondary checks.October is a time of turning leaves, falling temperatures, costume parties, and Jack-o’-lanterns. If you want your music to sound good, you have to monitor / mix / master on the best, highest resolution, most accurate speakers you can, to truly gauge its excellence or score – if those speakers can’t do “excellent”, how will you even know if or when you’ve achieved it? You need to be able to compare your music results to the very finest quality music you know of, and be able to measurably hear every degree of difference – not see how far you can keep degading fidelity and reducing bandwidth before it becomes unacceptable or intolerable. Those people won’t have even read this far through this paragraph of text. Why totally wreck your mix overcompensating for the pathetic audio performance of a small mobile device, just to slightly benefit those people who are so disinterested in your music they can’t be bothered to listen to it seriously in the first place, and probably only for a few seconds because most YouTube and Facebook viewing stats figures show average viewers have barely a 15 second attention span to whatever they play before they get bored and switch to something else anyway. So what?! What are you gonna do?! Pile on tons and tons and tons of bass EQ boost? No point anyway, because it won’t be reproduced…. Okay, so this proves your mix will sound crap through a mobile phone or laptop (as if you didn’t know that already!!!) – absolutely no bass below 300Hz. You can test the software for 30 days for free and without restrictions. The plug-in runs on Mac OSX 10.9 or higher and Windows 7 or higher as AAX, AU, VST and VST3 in 32- or 64-bit. If you own MixChecker, you can pay with a special update code (you will receive it by e-mail) and reduce the price to USD 59. A test is definitely worth a shot! Price and availabilityĪudified MixChecker Pro is available on the manufacturer’s website for USD 199. You can also control the plug-in remotely via a web browser. In addition, you can define and re-adjust almost all settings yourself, add distortion, and use an Auto Advance function, which lets you browse presets quickly. The pro version has also been optimized to produce better latency and phase-linear sound. MixChecker Pro offers over 60 speaker models in different sizes, and there’s also the possibility of adding ambient noise (subway station, in a vehicle, in the park, and so on). By clicking on the different pictures in the graphical user interface, you can immediately turn your monitors into another set of monitors. You have to place the plug-in on the master channel of your DAW, so that the sum is completely passed through the tool. Beebole’s reminders are ideal because they will only be sent to employees who haven’t submitted time for the chosen period. You’ll have to manually send messages in order to exclude team members who have already submitted time for a given period, which can be extremely time consuming. Another downside of timesheet reminders, of course, is that they can become very irritating for employees who are submitting their timesheets on time. With these challenges in mind, Beebole’s automated timesheet reminders allow you to set the day, frequency, and time of messages. It becomes impossible to totally switch off, which leads to stress, burn out, and is generally detrimental to your employees’ health. Even when there is no expectation to act on an email right away, these messages can be difficult to ignore. While some companies and countries are protecting the “right to disconnect”, correspondence sent outside working hours is still commonplace. More importantly, you should consider employees’ own well-being and mental health when sending reminders, and emails in general. Or try sending reminders first thing in the morning, when many employees get simple administrative tasks out of the way. If employees should submit their timesheets before the end of the day on Friday, send a reminder near the end of working hours, while employees are still at their desks and are finishing up the week’s final tasks. The most effective reminder is sent when the person can act on it right then. Whether your timesheet reminder is formal or informal, you should put some thought into when it is sent. Thanks and best When Not to Send Reminders If you’re unsure why the hours weren’t approved, speak to your manager. Don’t forget to modify and resubmit these hours as soon as possible. Some of all of your submitted hours from were not approved. For resubmitted hours, you can send a reminder like this: If a timesheet is rejected, don’t forget to remind the employee that they need to edit and resubmit those hours. Thanks and best Reminders for Resubmitting Timesheets Please fill out and submit your hours as soon as possible, and if you have any problems or questions let your manager know. Short and sweet! Hopefully your team is already well aware of the time tracking policies and obligations, and won’t need more than this friendly reminder, but just in case you can follow up with: Please don’t forget to submit your timesheet before the end of business hours today! In most cases, you’ll be sending a timesheet reminder to employees who you know and work with, and a more casual message will be more appropriate. If you have any questions or problems submitting your timesheet, please contact your supervisor.īest Regards Informal Timesheet Reminders Please complete and submit your timesheet as soon as possible. Failure to submit your timesheet may result in not being paid or in loss of accrued leave. I am notifying you that your timesheet due on is overdue. In this case, you can follow up with something along the lines of: It should never come to this, but realistically there will be times when employees need a second reminder. If you have any questions please contact your supervisor. Failure to submit your timesheet on time may result in late payment. Please complete and submit your timesheet before the end of business hours. This is a reminder that your timesheet is due today. For everyone’s sake it may be good to remind them that no timesheet means no paycheck. What’s more, for non-salaried contractors or employees, their paycheck could depend on submitted hours. If you are a manager at a large corporation, or supervise remote contractors whom you don’t personally know, a straight-forward and formal timesheet reminder might be your best bet. If time tracking is part of an employee’s job responsibilities, it should be taken seriously, but an overly formal email might not mesh with your team’s culture. In a timesheet reminder, it can be difficult to strike a tone that’s firm but not cold. However, it can also depend on your company culture and time tracking policies, which likely stems from your decision to implement it in the first place. Of course, the frequency of these messages will depend on when employees at your company are required to submit their timesheets. Below are some timesheet reminder templates that might help. Even if your team is small, the best option are timesheet reminders that you can automate, whether that be a calendar alert, SMS, Slack message, or email. Even the most well-intentioned of employees might forget to submit their timesheet on time, and a friendly reminder can go a long way.
